Duck

It is difficult to find a pond or lake in northeastern Arizona that doesn’t have a duck swimming in it.

There are many species (kinds) of ducks to watch, too! You might see mallards, wood ducks, and several other species of ducks.

Ducks can be colorful or they can be not so colorful, and sometimes it depends on whether the duck is male or female. For example, male mallard ducks have a green head, but females do not. The photo below shows a male and female mallard.

Where Do Ducks Live?

Duck live close to water. That is where they build their nests, lay their eggs, and raise their ducklings.

What Do Ducks Eat?

Ducks eat a variety of foods, including small crustaceans (like crayfish), insects, small fish and fish eggs, and vegetation.
