Highlights: A good site to encounter mule deer, elk, small- and medium-sized mammals, and forest bird species. The trail follows the upper edge of Timber Mesa, looping back to the parking area underneath the mesa. It passes through several habitat types, moving in and out of ponderosa pine, manzanita scrub and pinyon juniper woodland. Some panoramic views include Pinetop-Lakeside, Show Low and Jacques Marsh. Look for the historic Twin Chimneys near the trailhead, remnants of the early Jacques Ranch.

Connector Trails:  The Sawmill Connector Trail (4.5 miles in length) links the Timber Mesa Trail and Panorama Trail to the east at the northern points of both trails. The Flume Connector Trail (2.5 miles long) links the two primary trails at their southern points.
