Parking: Sunrise to sunset at designated trail-head only.

Access:

  • From the Lakeside Ranger District office, travel southeast on White Mountain Blvd. 0.2 of a mile
  • Turn left onto Porter Mountain Road. Proceed north 1.7 miles.
  • Turn right to remain on Porter Mountain Road (Forest Road 45); the road name changes to Penrod Road if you proceed straight.
  • Drive 3.4 miles. Trailhead parking is on left at junction with Forest Road 206.

Highlights: On a clear day, views from the top of Twin Knolls are outstanding. The trail passes through a portion of the Woolhouse Wildlife Habitat area, which is closed to motorized vehicles for habitat protection. Two connector trails lead west to Timber Mesa Trail.
